THEME FRIDAYS

Okay, this week’s theme is 16. (i don’t know what i was thinking!) Be sure to check out Annie’s sweet sixteen.
16
Sixteen left, she thinks
looking through her reflection
at streaming lights
and landscape blurred by speed
she is desperate to wash her hands
gritty with day and wringing and uncleanliness
sixteen miles to crisp empty air
sixteen miles away from home
sixteen miles more til home
the dim and buzz of lights
she watches the last few towns
what is life there?
she gleans from sad cars in yards
weeds lovely from a distance
leaning barns and trees shade barefoot children
grazing cows the lazy tails of horses playing with the light of a dying sun
she misses gleam and shine
flash and fast
16 miles to Talent

Hey Chica,
That is gorgeous – I loved the anticipation and the realness of the car trip. Anxious to get there but missing what you have left behind. The wonder of something new and the fear of it as well. You’re so good at the small details – wanting to wash her hands, weeds that are lovely in the distance – wonderful.
16 miles to Talent…perfect.
Love,
Annie
Thanks, Chica.
i was considering doing something about being 16 years old, but thought that’d be too easy.
Yours was phenomenal…
